Emily Merritt, MSN, RN, FNP
……..is new to the School Alert team, joining in 2025. She has over 20 years of experience in nursing, including the past eight years dedicated specifically to school nursing. Emily currently serves as the Director of Nursing Services for a school district and is an active member of both the National Association of School Nurses and the Association of School Nurses of Connecticut. Her passion for school nursing, combined with her background in research and writing, project management, administration, and health technology, positions her uniquely as co-editor of the 11th and newest edition of the School Nurse Resource Manual. In this role, she has built upon the work of school nurses to help advance the profession and support its future growth.
Suzanne Levasseur, MSN, APRN
.....joined School Health Alert in 2014. She has been in school health for approximately 20 years both as a Nurse Practitioner in School Based Health Centers and as a School Nurse Administrator. She is a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and a Certified Pediatric Mental Health Specialist. Suzanne is past president of the Association of School Nurses of Connecticut and the Connecticut Director to NASN. She has contributed to past editions of the School Health Alert Newsletter, Legal Resources for School Health Services and the School Nurse Resource Manual. In addition Suzanne has been a speaker on a variety of school health topics at both the State and National level. She is as co-editor of the 11th and newest edition of the School Nurse Resource Manual.
Cheryl A. Resha, EdD, MSN, RN, FNASN, FAAN
...joined School Health Alert in 2014. Dr. Resha began her career in pediatric nursing at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and eventually transitioned to school nursing. Dr. Resha has provided leadership and advocacy for school nurses and safe school nursing practice at the local, state, and national levels as a school nurse supervisor, state school nurse consultant, author, speaker, and an independent consultant. She was inducted as a Fellow in the National Academy of School Nursing in June 2012 and in the American Academy of Nursing in 2022. Dr. Resha is Professor Emerita and former Department Chair, from Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU). She has co-authored and edited both editions of the Legal Resource for School Health Services and the 9th and 10th edition of the School Nurse Resource Manual.
Vicki L. Taliaferro, BSN, RN, NCSN-E
... joined School Health Alert in 2007. She has over thirty years' experience in the field of school nursing. She is an independent school nurse consultant who has been a State School Nurse Consultant, an advisor to numerous school health programs and served as the coordinator of professional practice documents for NASN. She is also a retired member of State School Nurse Consultants, having served as president, and is an editor of four editions of the School Nurse Resource Manual, co-author of both editions of the Legal Resource for School Health Services, and editor of School Nurse Digest and Administrator's Risk Alert.
